On June 01, 1961 in Riga a new machinery plant was founded, which was a part of the USSR Latvia Republic Power construction Department. The plant main field of activity was production of accessories for electricity transmission, auxiliary devices and transformer repair works. In August 1967 this plant has been transformed into experimental power constructions plant JAUDA, which produced electro distribution items for the whole Soviet Union.

Already at this early stage JAUDA was producing metal constructions, low voltage devices, medium voltage solution and compact transformer substations. With the years the plant has gained experience and developed technology that allows us today to work not only on local market, but also to export production to other countries.

JAUDA has put much effort into development of Latvia power engineering by production of necessary goods and by invention and design of new technological products. For example, the JAUDA specialists have developed high voltage chambers, open air eliminators and other power engineering solutions. In 1982 on the Exhibition of National Economic Achievements JAUDA technical solutions were awarded 2 silver medals. In cooperation with “Latvenergo” electro laboratory, the solutions for power line protection and automatic control box (all in all 20 variants) were developed, which won silver award in Moscow Exhibition in 1988.

After the fall of the “iron curtain” and disintegration of the Soviet Union, situation in our country has changed. The enterprise needed restructurisation to keep pace with new market conditions. And the main step in this direction was privatization of the enterprise. Thus, on August 02, 1991 JAUDA has been transformed into the stock venture and the company workers became the stock holders. The second important step was modernization of the technological park – new machinery has been bought and the staff received additional training. For implementation of this program credit resources have been borrowed and invested in long-term development plans. At these times there were neither moneys, nor demand for our production. Still we managed to restructurise and offer modern and successful products to the new developing market.

Already in the beginning of 90-ies, JAUDA tries not only to restructurise and develop, but also to offer production to the wider market. 1992 saw the first edition of the production catalogue in English and in 1993 JAUDA participated in international exhibition in Poland. In April 1995 A/S EF “JAUDA” presented its production in West European Exhibition in Germany – “Hannover – 95”, where contacts have been made and during that year the enterprise began to export its production, which was 1,92% of turnover in 1995 and this figure grew to 26,3% in the next 1996.

Step by step we developed trade and marketing, which allowed the enterprise to switch from production enterprise to multifunctional company in 1995, dealing not only in production, but also in trading. In 1995 the volume of trade was 29,1% of turnover, but in 1996 it achieved 34,6%. A/S EF “JAUDA” became not only one of the largest electric material manufacturers in the Baltics, but also one of the biggest product wholesaling companies.
